Job description:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Initiates, builds, and maintains customer relationships.
  • Compiles lists of prospective customers for use as sales leads, drawing on sources such as ad inquiries, trade shows, direct mail responses, aged leads, dealer resellers, business directories, online platforms, and other channels.
  • Handles inbound sales calls and converts them into sales opportunities.
  • Makes outbound follow-up calls and sends emails to potential and existing customers to qualify leads and sell products and services.
  • Overcomes technical and business objections from prospective customers.
  • Determines material markups based on market conditions, competitor positions, order volume, application, packaging, freight costs, and customer importance.
  • Sources customer orders appropriately.
  • Decides whether to use floor-stock or production, considering lead times, product specifications, and market applications.
  • Establishes customer delivery dates by assessing warehouse and production stock levels, product specifications, and logistics lead times.
  • Investigates and recommends responses to customer complaints regarding shipments or material claims, including coordination with production or direct negotiation with customers.
  • Determines how to respond to non-partner customer orders, factoring in customer importance, available stock, lead times for replacement material, and current sales volume. May decline or adjust orders as necessary.
  • Monitors and tracks stock levels.
  • Coordinates customer training sessions.
  • Prepares reports on business transactions.
  • Manages customer contracts.
  • Analyzes customer forecasts to develop stock and release programs.
  • Makes recommendations on effective programs or contracts to supply materials.
  • Collaborates with Outside Sales Representatives to maintain accurate account activities and customer materials.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels and negotiate effectively with suppliers.
  • Analytical ability to assess complex information and make sound decisions.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management with a proven ability to meet deadlines and manage conflicting priorities.
  • Proactive problem-solving approach.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Effectiveness in fast-paced, and at times stressful, environments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
  • Three years of inside sales experience preferred.
  • Experience in the metals industry preferred.
  • U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Residency required due to ITAR and EAR regulations.
